Seal Training is an ocean preparation program for young water enthusiasts who want to build the confidence and skills needed to become playful, capable ocean swimmers and eventually Junior Guards or surfers.
Designed to complement regular swim training, this program helps children transition from pool swimmers into confident ocean participants through boogie boarding, games, repetition, and hands-on learning in real surf conditions.
This is a drop-off class, though we maintain an open door policy for parents.
Our typical instructor-to-student ratio is 6:1, depending on students’ ability in the water, and we adjust staffing as needed to maintain safety and quality instruction.
Location
Our primary training location will be Surfside (Anderson Street), though we may occasionally paddle or train in Alamitos Bay depending on conditions.
Locations may shift depending on surf, tides, weather, and group needs, and communication will always happen through GroupMe so families know where to meet.
We operate in all weather conditions, using the environment as part of the learning experience.
What to Expect
Seal Training introduces students to the skills and confidence needed to move comfortably in ocean environments.
Through games, challenges, and playful repetition, students learn how to read waves, move through surf, and build strong water confidence.
Students will work on:
🌊 Acclimating to waves and changing ocean conditions
🏊 Ocean swimming and water confidence
🤙 Body surfing and wave riding
🌊 Boogie boarding and board handling
🏃 Beach fitness and sand workouts
🌞 Ocean awareness and water safety
The goal is to help students become comfortable, capable, and confident in the ocean while having fun.
Seal Training serves as a great stepping stone for students interested in Junior Guards, surfing, and other ocean sports.
Beyond the Water
When surf conditions aren’t ideal, we keep kids active and learning through activities such as:
🏃 Beach PT (physical training) and conditioning drills
🌊 Ocean safety and situational awareness
🤝 Team challenges and confidence building
🎯 Nerf battles and tactical team games
🧗 Obstacle courses and endurance challenges
🏆 Military-style missions and strategy challenges
These activities build strength, teamwork, resilience, and confidence both in and out of the water.
