Join us for a year of surf, physical training, and real-world readiness skills with Aqualand & Sgt. Schools. This program is designed for students ages 8 & up who are ready for greater physical challenges, leadership opportunities, and practical life skills.
Each class begins with a shared surf session alongside Matty & Way of the Waterman program, allowing families with siblings of different ages to attend programs at the same beach and during the same time block. After the surf portion, older students will split off into Surf & Readiness training led by Sgt. Schools. This is a drop-off class, though we maintain an open door policy for parents. Our ratio for this age group is typically 6:1 depending on students’ ability in the water, and we adjust staffing as needed to maintain safety and quality instruction.
Location
Our primary surf location will be Surfside (Anderson Street), though we will also paddle and train in Alamitos Bay depending on conditions.Locations may shift depending on surf, tides, weather, and group needs, and communication will always happen through GroupMe so families know where to meet.We operate in all weather conditions. When surf conditions aren’t ideal, we shift our focus to land-based training and readiness skills.
What to Expect
Students begin the morning with surfing, ocean swimming, and water confidence training alongside the Way of the Waterman group. Surfing and ocean skills remain a core part of the program, helping students build strength, awareness, and confidence in the water. After the surf session, older students transition into Surf & Readiness training led by Sgt. Schools, where the focus expands to physical fitness, leadership, teamwork, and real-world preparedness skills. Training is delivered through games, challenges, and mission-style activities that encourage problem solving, teamwork, and resilience. The goal is to help students become strong, capable, and confident young people both in the ocean and in everyday life.
