Water Polo Development: Aquatic Skills & Physical Education

Led by Matthew “Matty” Mitchell, a former UCLA swimmer and water polo player with decades of experience in aquatics and ocean safety. Matty has coached water polo at Harvard-Westlake and Wilson High School among others.

Held at the Golden West College pool, this weekly enrichment class introduces students to the foundational aquatic skills used in water polo, including swimming technique and endurance, water competency, eggbeater and treading, body positioning, ball handling, passing and catching, shooting, spacing, teamwork, and water safety.

The program emphasizes physical fitness, individual skill development, confidence, and teamwork. Students may participate in instructional scrimmages to put their skills into practice. No previous water polo or competitive swimming experience is required, but students must be able to survival swim independently.

This is a non-league instructional enrichment program. No league games, tournaments, or travel.
